Dan and Lisa

So back to Dan and Lisa, the couple I stayed with on Wednesday.
Dan pulled over while I was then pulled over while I was on the side of the road just make sure that I was OK and that I had a place to stay. Yes me if I had heard of a website called "Warmshowers.com" I said I had but I wasn't sure if I was going to use it because I didn't know how far I was going to ride. He offered me A place to stay and I wasn't quite as far as I would like for the day, soI said I would stop for about an hour just to rest up. We had some great conversations and I could tell you what a great guy who is giving me lots of good advice, so I ended up staying the night.
Dan has ridden his bike across the country before, so it was good to hear some of his stories and tips. He knows the area very well, so he told me about an old road that runs parallel to Rt 2, the road I had to be on. That was great advice because I took the road and I didn't see a single car on that road and it was just me and the forest (and some big never ending bulls).
Both relocated from Chicago and were nervous about the transition. They didn't know if they would be able to find work or how they would like the transition from a huge city that has about the same population in that state (Washington). Lisa got a job as a librarian and Dan is currently a building inspector with the county. They had a beautiful house in the middle of the woods with an amazing view.
They had 2 dogs Frankie who was a pit bull mix and Dexter who was a Rottweiler mix. The dogs were very friendly and full of energy. Dexter recently had a little fall off a cliff while he was hiking with Dan. Dan said he fell about 400 feet and hit rocks the whole way down, Dan way very surprised to find him still alive when he got to the bottom. He had to carry the dog out on his shoulders and to the vet. Dexter required about $7000 in vet bills, but he is alive and moving well. Just goes to show that when it's not your time, it's not your time.
Overall really great people who are very giving and enjoy sharing their stories and listening to others, which traveling is all about. I have attached some photos of the day and the view off their back deck. Make today great. More stories about my ride up the cascades yesterday and staying with a guy named Rory who I met at Steven's Pass....
