I am riding my bike across the country to raise money for the elementary school I work for. I want to raise enough money to build a greenhouse so we can grow local and teach the kids about sustainability. This blog allows me to tell you about my travels and share my stories with you. Enjoy

Marty!!
Marty was a lifesaver. I stopped at the bottom of the 1000ft climb at the gas station and the temp was about 110. I had my bike next to the table I was sitting at and this guy walks up to me and says "it's awfully hot to be bike touring in this heat" I laughed and said yeah, and I told him I was just trying to cool off before I attempted the hill. He right away offered a ride up the hill and said it would be no problem. I accepted his offer and threw my bike in the back of his truck. As we started driving, I was very happy to be in his cool air conditioned truck and moving faster than 4mph up the hill in this weather. We had some great travel conversations and he offered to drive me to Spokane. He kept telling me that's where he was going and it wouldn't be a big deal... It was hard to turn down that offer in this heat and after seeing what we were driving through (all wheat fields). We kept driving for about 20 miles and he dropped me off at a little campground where I could find a place to crash for the night. We took a quick dip in the lake before he continued his drive home. I thanked him for his service and we exchanged numbers because he was going to have his friend take a look at my bike. As I sat there on the bench next to the beach, a man approached me and asked me "where I was ridding to?" He was wearing bike shorts and I found that pretty interesting (for being in a very tiny city)
