We ended up stopping in a little city called Creston and were just hanging in the shade when we hear a voice call over the street asking if we need water or anything. We accept the water offer and get to taking to this nice man named, Darrel, who lives there. He was born there and came back to be closer to his family. He was a great guy who even came out with some Independence Day cookies for us to enjoy. We stayed in Darrel's yard for at least an hour and then parted ways and rode back into the heat. We saw a really cool little dire devil (twister) along the way.
We ended up making it to a little city called Davenport and that was where we were going to stay for the night. We hung out in the park on main street and sat in the shade. Bill went off to explore the city and told us about the firework the city was having at the baseball fields (it's so dry here you can't set off fireworks because they can start a forest fire). The town was doing a BYOF (bring your own fireworks). So we went to the park and it was totally for kids during the day. We hung out for a bit watching the band and getting some cheap carnival food.
After the band was over it started to get darker and the fireworks began... Ha there was not much of a display. We spoke with the organizer of the event and asked if we could sleep on the fields. He said yes and we were delighted that we had a place to stay that night. The fields were nice and green and were an excellent sleeping spot under the stars because it was not going to rain....until 230am when the sprinkler system came on. The sprinkler hit me right in the face and I had no clue what was happening. I thought someone was spraying us to get up. Panicking I ran off the field trying to carry as much as possible. I should have realized that when the grass is green and everything around it is brown...
