I contacted some people on Warmshowers while I was in Newport and one of the hosts, Devin, got back to me. He was a great guy and he lived in a beautiful house with his wife , Franci, and their 4 kids. I got there around 9 and they gave me an awesome dinner and we chatted for a bit on the deck before going to bed. They were a great host and treated me like a king. I woke up to fresh farm eggs, straight from their chicken coop and a great breakfast. I hung out till about 945, said thank you and then headed to the bike shop.
I am riding my bike across the country to raise money for the elementary school I work for. I want to raise enough money to build a greenhouse so we can grow local and teach the kids about sustainability. This blog allows me to tell you about my travels and share my stories with you. Enjoy

Thumbin
I told bill and Nick not to worry about me and we would meet up in the morning after I buy new tires. I was in a town called Newport, WA and I sat outside a grocery store at a traffic light with the main road heading east toward Sandpoint. I stopped into the store and got a box and borrowed a marker and wrote "Sandpoint" on it, then I went and sat at the corner. Took the sunnies off my eyes and glared into the sun with a smile on my face, my thumb pointed east and my sign held high and clear. I made sure people could see my bike as well. I waited for about 35-40 minutes and then this nice lady stopped to pick me up. She was only going about 5 miles down the road, but every bit helps. Her name was Tricia and she was a doll! We talked about organic compost and just good people. She dropped me off in front of another grocery store and I walk down to the light and post up at a gas station with the same sign. Again, I wait about 40 minutes for a ride and this guy comes back and picks me up. His name is Denis and he is a retired game warden. We had some awesome conversations about education and just how great the west is. He drove me all the way to he place I was staying.
